After food crisis, Senegal aims to grow its own
Senegal was crippled by the global food crisis last year in which prices for basic staples shot up tremendously. Now the country has made it a national priority to bolster local production.

Senegal's cattle sidelined for imported powdered milk
Despite having three million cattle, Senegal is slowly forgetting the taste of fresh milk. The country imports vast amounts of powdered milk, using both domestically and commercially. The African Union's new president has urged continental leaders to "make sure Africa is able to feed Africa", but the milk imports are a sign of the continent's continuing dependence on foreign food sources. Senegal's St Louis given a face-lift
The city of St Louis, founded by the French in the 17th century, is celebrating its 350th anniversary. The mood there, however, is not very festive, as last year UNESCO threatened to take the city off its list of World Heritage sites.
