10.2 Dumb and Dumber at Dakhla in W Sahara
10 Feb 2007 - The 4000 mile Plymouth to Banjul charity old-banger rally pauses at Dakhla, in Western Sahara, for rest and repairs. We decide not to camp in the compound at Camping Moussafir and instead take one of their 3-euro rooms! Next morning it's really hot, so Andy & Keith of team Life Mechanics try some of the sun cream we were given by Worlingham Pharmacy. We should've read the label properly, as we'd smeared ourselves with total sunblock! The Pharmacy had also kindly donated boxes of medical supplies destined for an up-country clinic in Banjul, and arranged cost-price malaria tablets etc for us. The Bodysnatchers - Let's Do Rocksteady
Footage from the Dance Craze film (1981?) The Bodysnatchers were a seven-piece outfit from London. Formed in mid-1979 during the British ska-revival movement by bassist Nicola, it was the only all-female band of the 2-Tone era. They were fronted by vocalist and song-writer Rhoda Dakar who later went on to join the Special AKA. 'Dance Craze' is a film and music recording released in the early 1980s and can be called the best visual document of the Two-Tone movement featuring live performances from the six bands central to the original cult of British Ska: The Specials; Madness; The Selecter; The Beat; The Bodysnatchers and Bad Manners. The performances were shot entirely on location in Aylesbury, Bradford, Hemel Hempstead, London, Cherry Hill, Leicester, Liverpool, Portsmouth and Sunderland. Each band is on top form and the film does indeed go some way to capture the atmosphere of those shows, but what the film does lack is some sort of insight into 2 Tone or the Ska revival in general.

Gorée is known as the location of the "House of Slaves" and it was one of the first places in Africa to be settled by Europeans.
